The project culminated with a final capability demonstration in Seville, Spain, hosted by consortium partner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gdels.com\/en\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gdels.com\/en\">GDELS Santa B\u00e1rbara Sistemas<\/a>, showcasing the outcomes achieved across the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/skyld.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-03-03-at-11.40.56-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1069\" srcset=\"https:\/\/skyld.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-03-03-at-11.40.56-576x1024.jpeg 576w, https:\/\/skyld.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-03-03-at-11.40.56-169x300.jpeg 169w, https:\/\/skyld.com.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-03-03-at-11.40.56.jpeg 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SKYLD\u2019s contribution in COMMANDS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Within COMMANDS, SKYLD Security and Defence Ltd delivered an Autonomous UAV Swarm capability designed to enhance reconnaissance and target support in operational scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the core of SKYLD\u2019s contribution was a next-generation autonomous UAV ecosystem built around our Swarm Engine, enabling coordinated multi-UAV behaviour through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinated task allocation across multiple UAVs, supporting efficient mission execution and coverage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guidance &amp; control functions designed for cooperative autonomy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-sensor data fusion, improving situational understanding and the quality of insights delivered to operators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To strengthen operational value, SKYLD also implemented AI-enabled edge processing of EO\/IR streams, supporting rapid detection and alerting for mission-relevant observations. Combined with multi-UAV cooperation, this provides practical benefits such as improved scanning efficiency and autonomous behaviours that help operators maintain awareness and respond faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interoperability with the wider command environment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A key objective in COMMANDS was that unmanned capabilities do not operate in isolation. SKYLD\u2019s swarm capability was designed to integrate with the broader command and control ecosystem through interoperability with a Battle Management System (BMS) using STANAG 4586 \/ standardized messaging, supporting secure information exchange and consistent operational workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This integration approach helps ensure that swarm-derived outputs can be consumed within existing command structures, reducing operational friction and improving usability during live missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ground Control Station for mission planning and real-time command<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To support commanders and operators, SKYLD developed a dedicated Ground Control Station (GCS) enabling:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Mission planning for swarm-enabled operations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Real-time command and control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operational visualization to help users understand what the swarm is doing and why<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>During the project, SKYLD\u2019s contribution was demonstrated using the ZEUS UAV platform as part of the wider system-of-systems capability showcased by the consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delivering capability through collaboration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>COMMANDS reaffirmed the importance of European cooperation in accelerating defence technology maturity\u2014from concept and integration through to demonstration.
